Food, glorious, food! Tempting your taste buds at sea.
More and more cruise lines are putting exciting cuisine at the top of their priority lists – and wisely so. Satisfying appetites is what great holidaying is all about!
Norwegian Cruise Line, for example, has always had bountiful dining delights and high-end specialty restaurants that turn their ships into floating feasts. Even their celebration of all things edible is revving up, as we discovered when the spectacular Norwegian Breakaway launched to much fanfare in the spring of 2013.
Geoffrey Zakarian, pre-eminent chef on the Breakaway and Food Network rock star on “Iron Chef America”, “Chopped” and “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” unveiled his restaurants: Ocean Blue and the Raw Bar. A gorgeous indoor/outdoor establishment at the heart of the ship, Ocean Blue showcases Zakarian’s culinary creativity with seafood-at-sea like never before, ranging from fine dining to casual, and even take-out. His crustacean station, the aptly named Raw Bar, is proving a winner as well. Zakarian is also overseeing other fish-focused restaurants on sister ship, Norwegian Getaway and will host cooking demos and workshops on select sailings on both ships.
The Waterfront, a promenade wrapping around much of Deck 8 is a unique concept, exclusive to Norwegian Cruise Line. Enjoy a cocktail at Shaker’s Martini Bar as you bask outside in the sun. Choose a table with an unbeatable view on The Waterfront as you enjoy a steak Brazilian-style at Moderno Churrascaria. Craving pizza and all things Italian? It’s all there. Yearning for fish and chips at O’Sheehan’s, a great neighborhood Bar and Grill? It’s open 24/7 for comfort food in a fun, pub-like atmosphere.
It’s a lineup designed to dazzle. Choose from complimentary and specialty dining or mix it up a little. Make a reservation at Le Bistro for delectable French cuisine one night, then head to Cagney’s the next, for chops, aged steaks and more. Be sure to include a pre-dinner martini at Prime Meridian. If Asian food’s your passion, you’ll love the sizzling hibachis at Teppanyaki and the dim sum at Shanghai’s Noodle Bar. Time for a treat? The cannoli and cupcakes at Carlo’s Bakery are standouts, made famous by Buddy Valastro, star of the TLC series “Cake Boss”.
Norwegian Breakaway with its banquet of 28 dining options will certainly assure you of all the pleasures of the table – along with a great sea view!
