Fine hotels are often described as having character, but Vancouver’s Opus Hotel in fashionable Yaletown takes the whole personality game one giant step further. All guest rooms and suites in the hotel have been created with their own personalities, styles and even names!

Opus’ creative geniuses have added the particular furnishings, colors and amenities they think best suit the imaginary characters for whom the rooms have been designed. You might, for instance, choose a night in a Susan suite where you can relax in sophisticated feminine ambiance. Elegant and luxurious, Susan’s walls are painted a soothing periwinkle blue to complement the creamy white leather settee and chair set, while sleek minimalist cabinetry and an impressive flat screen TV complete the scene. Maybe, like me, you’re a fan of Pierre’s, the wildest of the Opus bunch, who loves vivid colors and is plugged into the club scenes in both Montreal and Vancouver. The warm orange tones and Euro chic style in his guest room are very tempting, as are the clean lines and understated comfort of imaginary New York doctor Mike’s room, whose in-room list of things to see, do, and taste in the neighborhood is impressive.

If you’re really doing it up right, however, you’ll want to stay in Opus Hotel’s Signature Suite, which combines the best of the best of all the personalities. This seventh floor hideaway offers 645 sq. ft. of glam, complete with a two-sided fireplace, a four poster bed and a jetted soaker bathtub nestled near a giant window with a panoramic view, so you can relax and sight-see all at once. If you tire of the view, you can always turn on the 3D TV, play with your complimentary in-room iPad or just absorb the energy radiated by the walls, all drenched in deep, gorgeous jewel tones – not a pastel in sight.
