Holland America Line’s Rotterdam is back in service following a two-week dry dock in The Netherlands, debuting more space for families and friends travelling together, along with additional locations to enjoy live music and refreshed retail areas.

On April 26, crew aboard the cruise line’s flagship welcomed guests back for the summer Northern Europe cruise season. Those guests were the first to experience enhancements that include updated Vista Suites, additional live music venues, a refreshed Effy shop and updated finishes throughout the ship.

Following dry dock, Rotterdam resumed its seven-day itineraries throughout Northern Europe, allowing guests to experience historic cities and scenic coastlines while enjoying refreshed onboard spaces designed for entertainment, relaxation and connection.

Expanded Live Music Experiences Across the Ship
Live music was a key focus of Rotterdam’s dry dock enhancements. Billboard Onboard and Rolling Stone Lounge each now feature additional seating, along with a redesigned central lounge that allows guests to enjoy live performances from both venues.

In addition, Crow’s Nest debuted a new live music stage, creating another inviting space for guests to enjoy performances, lectures and enrichment programming with panoramic views.

A new live music stage and bandstand was also added at the Sea View Pool on Deck 9 aft, expanding entertainment options outdoors and giving guests more opportunities to enjoy live performances throughout the day and evening.

Suite Upgrades for Groups Sailing Together
Stateroom enhancements also were a priority during Rotterdam’s dry dock, with upgrades designed to better serve groups sailing together.

Twenty-two Vista Suites were enhanced with new sofa beds, expanding quad-occupancy options aboard the ship. Each upgraded suite now offers a comfortable sleeping arrangement for up to four guests without compromising the elevated design and amenities that define Holland America’s Pinnacle Class Vista Suite experience.

New carpeting was installed across staterooms, guest corridors and public areas, giving Rotterdam a lighter, updated look. The main public areas throughout the ship also received updates including new furniture upholstery, as well as refinished and hand-polished wood chairs, refinished floors and new wall coverings.

The Greenhouse Spa & Salon received thoughtful updates, including the installation of a new, more ergonomic hair washing station designed to improve comfort for both guests and stylists.

Rotterdam’s casino was refreshed and now features approximately 20 additional slot machines, new seating, updated carpeting and new televisions installed in the table games area, contributing to a more comfortable and engaging gaming environment.

Effy Jewelry Retail Space Refresh
Rotterdam’s dry dock also included refurbishment work in the Effy Jewelry retail venue. These updates align Rotterdam’s shop with the upgrades done on Koningsdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam. The reimagined boutique features new flooring, wall finishes, lighting and display fixtures, along with upgraded signage and merchandising elements that create a brighter, more modern retail environment. Amphora, the signature restaurant, has been fully redesigned with new flooring, wall finishes, and ceiling treatments, along with custom banquette seating and updated furnishings. MSC Cruises invites guests to discover the newly enhanced MSC Poesia, which has successfully completed her dry dock refurbishment at the Palumbo Malta Shipyard.

The ship now features a wide range of new additions, including the introduction of the exclusive MSC Yacht Club, alongside enhanced guest experiences, ahead of her highly anticipated debut season in Alaska next month.

MSC Poesia is the second ship from the line’s MSC Musica Class to undergo a major refurbishment at the Maltese shipyard, following sister ship MSC Magnifica, which left the shipyard in December.

The transformation marks a major milestone for MSC Cruises, reflecting a significant ongoing investment in refurbishing and modernizing its fleet to continually enhance the guest experience.

MSC Poesia will now feature the MSC Yacht Club, the brand’s exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept, offering 69 elegantly appointed suites, 24- hour butler and concierge service, and access to a private oasis of facilities including a dedicated restaurant, lounge, private sundeck with whirlpools, and grill restaurant and bar.

Guests will also now enjoy two new specialty dining venues - Butcher’s Cut, an authentic American-style steakhouse, and Kaito Sushi Bar – inspired by the Far East where guests can savour expertly crafted sushi and exquisite authentic Asian dishes.

The enhancement will also include a newly designed MSC Aurea Spa and MSC Gym Powered by Technogym®, complete with a Gentleman’s Barber, various workout studios, and the Top 15 Exclusive Solarium, a spacious outdoor area for Aurea guests.

Earlier this year, MSC Cruises announced the expansion of its renowned MSC Yacht Club to two additional ships, MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra. The completion of these latest enhancements means all four vessels in the Musica class will now be fully upgraded to feature MSC Yacht Club – this includes MSC Poesia, MSC Magnifica, MSC Musica and MSC Orchestra.

Following her departure from Europe, MSC Poesia will transit the world-famous Panama Canal, before arriving in Seattle for her Alaska season. Crystal Grace
Crystal Grace will make her official debut on June 11, 2028, in Civitavecchia (Rome) with an inaugural voyage that visits Sorrento, Igoumenitsa, Kotor, Split, Zadar and Trieste before continuing to Venice launching a Mediterranean season that explores Southern Europe’s historic coastlines and cultural capitals. Throughout the summer, the ship will operate voyages across Italy, Croatia, Greece, France and Spain, with stops in Valencia and Monte Carlo. The ship will be christened during an overnight stay in Monte Carlo during the July 8, voyage that departs from Barcelona. Following the 2028 World Cruise, Treasures of the Tides, Crystal Symphony begins summer operations in the Americas departing June 10, from Fort Lauderdale, with a Panama Canal transit and calls in Cartagena, Puerto Caldera, San Juan del Sur and Puerto Vallarta before sailing along the California coast to San Diego and San Francisco.

Expansion plans reinforce the brand’s leadership in river cruising amid strong global demand

AmaWaterways announced its most ambitious expansion to date, growing its global fleet to more than 50 ships by 2032, with 15 new ships in Europe and more than 60 percent capacity growth beyond the region, including new ships in Africa and Asia.

This builds on a fleet of 31 ships currently in operation, with three new ships already announced for 2027 across the Rhine, Danube and Mekong. In Europe, AmaWaterways had confirmed eight new ships and is now adding seven more, including one in Portugal, reflecting sustained demand across its core markets. The company is also strengthening its presence in Africa with one additional ship on the Chobe River and two new ships on the Nile in Egypt, with one set to debut in 2026.

Showcasing Umi Uma, Osteria d’Ovidio and Beefbar, With New Outdoor Dining Options

Crystal, the leader in exceptional cruise experiences, released today a new set of renderings for its newest ship Crystal Grace set to debut on June 11, 2028. Following the recent unveiling of the ship’s beautifully appointed suite categories, the renderings offer a first look at some of the most popular specialty dining venues, all designed by Tillberg Design of Sweden in collaboration with Crystal’s culinary partners. Umi Uma will feature a full-height glass wall with unobstructed ocean views, while Beefbar and Osteria d’Ovidio will include dedicated, covered outdoor dining areas that extend the restaurants beyond their interiors, with a shared bar connecting the two venues to create a cohesive dining flow. The design and spatial planning reflect Crystal’s focus on precision, harmony and the overall quality of onboard finishes, underscoring the elevated standard of living that defines the ship.

Umi Uma

The celebrated specialty restaurant created in partnership with world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa, will return aboard Crystal Grace. The menu will feature signature Japanese Peruvian fusion cuisine inspired by the traditions of the Orient and the distinctive style of Chef Nobu, including Nobu style Black Cod, grilled Chilean sea bass and a selection of sushi alongside other innovative dishes reflective of his culinary vision.

Located on Deck 5, the 84-seat restaurant has been thoughtfully planned with Chef Nobu, to ensure the space reflects the understated elegance synonymous with his restaurants around the world. The venue will include a sushi bar available on a drop-in basis, offering a more informal way to dine, while the main dining room will be available by reservation. Framed by a dramatic full-height glass wall with unobstructed ocean views, the restaurant promises a striking dining setting that pairs exceptional cuisine with the beauty of the sea.

Osteria d’Ovidio
Continuing Crystal’s celebrated collaboration with acclaimed three-Michelin-starred Italian chef Massimiliano Alajmo and restaurateur Raffaele Alajmo, Osteria d’Ovidio will also return aboard Crystal Grace.
Located on Deck 10, the restaurant will offer a sophisticated, yet relaxed setting inspired by contemporary Italian dining, with seating for 68 guests indoors and an additional 20 seats on a spacious outdoor terrace. A defining feature of the venue is its large, covered open-air dining area, an inviting space that allows guests to enjoy distinctive Italian cuisine while surrounded by fresh sea air and sweeping ocean views. The menu celebrates the finest flavors of Italy across three distinct sections — Italia, Le Calandre and Venezia — offering Italian classics, signature dishes from the Alajmo family’s Michelin-starred flagship and refined Venetian-inspired plates such as vitello tonnato, maccheroni alla carbonara, saffron risotto with licorice powder, smoked tuna carpaccio and pistachio gelato.

Beefbar
Beefbar returns aboard Crystal Grace as part of Crystal’s ongoing collaboration with global restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi, showcasing the modern steakhouse concept recognized in some of the world’s most exclusive cities. With celebrated locations in destinations including Monaco, Paris and Mykonos, Beefbar is known for its contemporary take on luxury dining, combining exceptional cuts of meat with a refined yet relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant will also feature Beefbar’s signature Beef Reef Leaf concept, emphasizing high-quality cuts presented with innovative culinary techniques.

Located on Deck 10, adjacent to Osteria d’Ovidio, the venue was developed in close collaboration with Giraudi, who reviewed the design to ensure alignment with the brand’s global aesthetic. The restaurant will feature 56 seats indoors, complemented by an expansive outdoor dining area with 58 seats set across a large, covered terrace, creating one of the most dynamic dining environments aboard the ship.
