Swan Hellenic Brings World-Leading Science Onboard
in ongoing support for HappyWhale with Groundbreaking Cape-to-Cape Expedition

Swan Hellenic is proud to announce a landmark collaboration with two of the world’s foremost experts in whale biology for its upcoming Cape-to-Cape cruise aboard SH Diana 5–25 March 2026. Professors Ken Findlay (right in the photo) and Jonathan Codd (left in the photo) will lead an immersive Science Discovery Programme, giving guests a rare opportunity to engage directly with cutting-edge research while exploring some of the planet’s most remote seas.
Professor Findlay, with over 35 years of experience in marine mammal science, has played a pivotal role in whale conservation across the Southern Hemisphere. Professor Codd, a polar biologist specializing in animal movement and physiology, has designed a hands-on programme that allows guests to contribute as citizen scientists, helping to study whale populations, behaviour, and long-distance migration.

Swan Hellenic has long supported HappyWhale, the global citizen science platform dedicated to whale research. The presence of Professors Findlay and Codd during the Cape-to-Cape voyage, spanning Ushuaia to Cape Town, will particularly enrich this initiative. Guests will have the unique chance to track individual whales, document their movements, and contribute valuable data that supports global conservation efforts.
“Having scientists of this calibre onboard allows our guests not just to observe, but to actively participate in research that has real-world impact,” said Antony Jinman, Expedition Leaders Manager at Swan Hellenic. “This voyage demonstrates how exploration, education, and conservation can come together in a truly unforgettable experience.”

Throughout the journey, guests will enjoy expert-led lectures and interactive workshops on whale biology, ecology, and conservation, as well as whale identification techniques, population surveys, and the science of migration. Data collected onboard will be shared with HappyWhale, helping to advance global understanding of these majestic creatures and their long-term protection.
This extraordinary expedition offers far more than a journey of discovery: it is a unique opportunity to explore the Southern and Atlantic Oceans while making a meaningful contribution to whale conservation. Guests will leave with not only unforgettable memories of stunning landscapes and wildlife but also a tangible connection to the science and conservation work shaping the future of our oceans.
