From the Black Forest in south-west Germany to the Black Sea, Europe's second largest river, the Danube, cuts a dramatic course through 10 countries (more than any other river in the world) and countless cities, towns and villages. From historically important trade routes, military vantage points and capitals to unspoiled countryside, this iconic river travels through some of the continent’s most wonderful sights. A Danube river cruise will take you to the heart of the European continent, bringing you up close and personal to places such as the Austrian capital of Vienna, steeped in 2,500 years of history and renowned for its contribution to theatre, opera, classical music and the fine arts with the world’s foremost examples of Baroque, Rococo, Romanesque, Classicist and Modern architecture surrounding you on every step you take, and creating one of Europe’s most beautiful and captivating cities.
